It is so enlightening to find other people who create their own outfits...I got talked into sewing a purple top for one of my daughter's kids who had found chaps but couldnt match the color...so Caitlin found material and I sewed a top for Kailey...first off the material was a BITCH to sew...was like tissue paper...it wouldnt press for nothin' either...it would skew under the feed dogs of the machine and I must have torn out seams 4 times on every turn of the way...the pattern sucked so I came up with my own!
Now that it is done, I am never going to buy material like that again...I love working with Brocade so I have two outfits I am working on now; a gold brocade and a black one. I also am making pants for a Lisa Nelle top one of Caitlin's clients bought that had never worn!!! It is a size TWO!!!!!!!!!! I hate people that small!!!!!!!!!! And then she has me take it in!!!!!!
I pour over the Equine Chronicle out of Ocala and study what everyone is wearing in their pictures...I think I could do it full time but MY problem is that *I* want to wear and use everything I make! BAAAAD business!
Anyhow I would love to see what people wear to their shows!

I am a Nazi too!
I love horse show fashion. I try to tell my non-horse friends what I am doing when I stray from our shopping, caught by what they now refer to as "sparklies". I explained show clothes as a cross between Vegas showgirl and Star Trek! They laughed until I showed them a website with the clothes. :-)
Where do you get your materials and your rhinestones? Do you hand set or use Hot-fix? Do you try 'western' patterns or just re-vamp women's wear patterns from the local fabric store? Do you like pig-skin, lamb-skin, kid-skin, fake? Do you have trouble finding it? ack. I haven't had anyone else to ask these questions of and am very curious. Everyone else I know loves my work, but thinks I am crazy for doing it myself.
I am currently waiting for pics from the World Show to show up so that I can scan for ideas. Making a new Showmanship outfit for myself. I HATE making pants, but since the days of double starched jeans went away, and I can't fit into any pre-made showmanship pants, I'm stuck making my own. I just took a pair I liked and pulled them apart for a pattern.
Ooh and I am a freak when it comes to matching my pants to my chaps. I hate the thought of my arse sticking out of that hole there in the back all highlighted a different color than my chaps! I have found that I can save time and material and my temperature by making long shorts for under my chaps. Looks a bit funny if I don't have the chaps on, but is really quite comfortable.
Heh, I could talk on this subject for hours!
Me too...I sleep, eat and breathe show clothes...I get my fabrics off the internet and from Jo-Anns here in twon...the ONLY store in the county that sells fabric. I buy my ultra suede from a lady on eBay, my crystals from either JoAnns or the Rhinestone Guy, and I have discovered my own short cuts to creating show clothes..Right now I am finishing up a brocade outfit and the pants I made were from a plain ol' pattern but they are huge so I have to do some alterations... I used a sea foam shantung which is gorgeous and matches the brocade; I will get pictures...If you get the Equine Chronicle it has show pictures of the most incredible outfits known to man...
We call it "Bling"...I bling like the 4th of July at shows...I will post some pics!
